Stainless Steel Exhaust System for Volvo 1800ES B20E/F 1972–1973 – Simons, with Mounting Kit

Stainless steel exhaust system for Volvo 1800ES model years 1972–1973 with B20E or B20F engine and a double-flange connection at the exhaust manifold. The exhaust system is manufactured in Sweden by Simons and supplied with a mounting kit. Please note that the mounting kit is not made from stainless steel.

The system has pipe diameters of 50.8 mm and 42 mm and is designed to fit the vehicle's exhaust layout and mounting points. For the Volvo 1800ES, we manually replace the tailpipe to give the exhaust system the correct original configuration for this model.

A worn or leaking exhaust system can cause increased exhaust noise, leaks and vibrations. When replacing the exhaust system, the pipes and mufflers are replaced at the same time.

Important Information About the Volvo 1800E

This exhaust system is intended for the Volvo 1800ES, model years 1972–1973.

The Volvo 1800E, model years 1970–1972, has a different original tailpipe design. For these models, use the stainless steel exhaust system with part number 292230SS.

Also check that the vehicle has a double-flange connection at the exhaust manifold.

Difference Between Volvo 1800E and 1800ES

Both exhaust systems are based on the same system from Simons. For the Volvo 1800ES, we manually replace the tailpipe to give the exhaust system the correct configuration for this model.

Choose the exhaust system according to the vehicle model to obtain the correct tailpipe configuration.

Check the Parts Before Installation

Before starting installation, check that all parts have been supplied and that the exhaust system configuration matches the vehicle's existing connections.

Installation

1. Removal: The nuts at the exhaust manifold may be difficult to loosen due to corrosion. Use penetrating oil and suitable tools to avoid damaging the studs and connections.

2. Check the sealing surface: Clean the exhaust manifold mating surface and check that it is flat and free from damage. If the connection does not seal properly, do not overtighten the nuts to compensate. This may damage the cast-iron exhaust manifold or the studs.

3. Fit the exhaust system: Assemble the pipes and mufflers without fully tightening the clamps. Exhaust assembly paste can be used at the joints.

4. Check the mounting points: The exhaust system has two mounting points:

   • At the inlet pipe of the centre muffler

   • At the outlet pipe of the rear muffler

5. Align and tighten: Position all components so that the exhaust system hangs freely without touching the bodywork or other components. Then tighten the clamps and mountings.

6. Check for leaks: Start the engine and check that all joints and connections are leak-free before driving the vehicle.
