Gearbox Volvo PV/Duett (M40)
Oil dripping under the box, howling bearings in the higher gears, or a worn mount causing vibration – these are the classic signs that the M40 gearbox in a 544 or 445 is getting tired. Once it's apart, it's worth replacing the seals and bearings in one go while everything is on the bench anyway.

The gearbox mount is listed as a separate item – a worn rubber mount makes itself clearly known as rattling and the gearbox knocking against the body.
