Rough idle, hesitant cold starts, and ignition misfires often stem from a tired distributor with worn breaker points, play in the shaft, or a cracked distributor cap. On the B18D – 1778 cc with a five-bearing crank and 12-volt system – it is the distributor that controls the ignition timing, and small amounts of play noticeably worsen running.
