A hand brake that has to be pulled almost to the bottom before it bites is the classic sign of slack in the cable or wear in the adjustment – and on the 960 with the multi-link rear axle, the brake shoes sit inside the hub drums of the rear wheels, so re-adjustment is done via the adjusting screw rather than at the shoes. This category gathers the parts for that strut-equipped multi-link rear end specifically, keeping them separate from the older solid-axle version.

The group includes the adjusting screw and brake adjustment for taking up slack, the lock nut and hexagon screw that lock the setting, plus the axle, retainer and handle for the lever itself. The door switch and O-rings belong here as well. During a rebuild, a recurring check is to verify the cable's freedom of movement and the adjusting screw's thread before tightening – a binding screw gives just as uneven a hand brake as a worn-out cable.
