Volvo 700 Trunk

Gas springs that no longer have the strength to hold the tailgate up and cracked rubber seals that let moisture into the cargo area are the most common reasons for tackling this part of a 700 car. Estates and sedans wear differently, and over the years seals turn stiff while fasteners and anchorages dry out and break.

This group includes gas springs, the rubber seal around the hatch opening, privacy shields, panels and sill moulding plus wire, control and fasteners for mounting and the locking function. Together the families cover sealing, lift assistance and interior trim details in the trunk.

A typical check point during restoration is the rubber seal itself: make sure it sits flush all the way around and that the drainage behind it is not clogged, otherwise water collects in the spare wheel container. It is a good idea to replace tired gas springs in pairs so the tailgate stands steady.
