Impulse sensor for the ignition system, fitted inside the distributor. The sensor detects the engine's position and speed and passes the signal on to the ignition system so that ignition takes place at the correct moment.

This is an ignition pulse sensor/distributor sensor and should not be confused with the later crankshaft sensor, which is located at the flywheel housing on engines with LH 2.4 injection, among others.
