Countershaft laygear for Volvo PV 544, Duett 210, Amazon, 1800, 1800ES, gearbox M30, M31, M40, M41, up to 1972

Countershaft for the laygear in manual gearbox M30, M31, M40 and M41, up to 1972. The laygear runs on 48 needle bearings around the shaft, diameter 16.8 mm. Needle bearings and thrust washers are not included and must be ordered separately.

Which gearbox applies differs between the cars: PV 544 and Duett 210 have M30 or M40, Amazon M30, M31, M40 or M41, 1800 and 1800ES only M41, and 140 M40 or M41. Check which gearbox your car has before ordering.

Good to know

Only remove the rear gearbox cover when working inside the gearbox – if the cover is removed, the whole gearbox must be dismantled, since the needles will fall out and the synchronisers may come apart. When fitting, a holder is needed as a placeholder for the countershaft, otherwise the needles cannot be kept in place. The cover is turned around the shaft when the countershaft is fitted.
