Frequently asked questions
Why does the rear axle howl?
A whine that changes with the throttle usually comes from worn pinion bearings or the wrong clearance between crown wheel and pinion. Replace bearings and seals in one go and set the clearance on assembly.
How do I know if I have ENV or Spicer?
The axle housing and differential cover look different. Compare with the pictures in John's tips at the top of the page, or send us your chassis number.
Is oil leaking at the wheels?
Then the oil seal at the wheel bearing is usually dry. Replace the seal and check the bearing at the same time – oil on the brake linings reduces braking.
