Rusty brake lines, a leaking master brake cylinder or a stiff hand brake are classic jobs on the 444, 544 and 445. Most cars still run hydraulic drum brakes all round, and on the early single-circuit systems a single leak means the entire brake pressure disappears – all the more reason to keep pipes, cylinders and hoses in order.

The brake parts are split by where on the car the job sits, so the right components for the front, rear and hydraulics end up grouped together:
During a full restoration, the master brake cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and new brake pipes are typical checkpoints to go through at the same time.
