Design and features

The brake drum is constructed in multiple parts, just like the original. The cast drum is press-fitted onto a steel hub and then machined to precise tolerances.

This design provides improved durability compared to one-piece drums and can handle higher loads, including more demanding driving conditions.

It also allows workshops and specialists to refurbish wheel hubs by replacing only the drum once the wear limit is reached.

 

Note

On Volvo PV444 and PV445 Duett up to approximately 1957, different thread directions were used on the wheel studs. New brake drums are supplied with right-hand threaded studs, which may require new wheel nuts.

 

Installation information

 

The contact surfaces between axle and drum must be clean, dry, and free from rust and grease.

Install the drum so that the grooves in the axle and drum align correctly. Check the key for proper fit and adjust if necessary.

Insert the key with the beveled side facing upwards and inward toward the wheel bearing.

Tighten the castellated nut to 120 Nm and continue tightening until the hole aligns for the split pin. Then install the split pin.
